Hello ladies!

Recently a good friend of mine has discovered she is intolerant to gluten and has just switched her bread to a gluten free make called Genius.

I tend to eat fresh home-baked french bread in the mornings with the kids but it just so happens I had a free morning and was round my friends for breakfast where she used this gluten free bread. I too made a shocking discovery, I felt absolutely great mid morning after eating this bread. Now this might not seem strange to you, but to me it was, normally mid mornings I feel bloated and fatigued, and it led me to believe maybe I have the same gluten-issues as my friend!

Turns out many people seem to have mild, minor or major gluten intolerance without their knowledge! This kind of food is usually found in carbs like bread, pasta, cakes, biscuits etc… and I’m telling you, there are 100’s of gluten free options! I have now switched myself and the kids for the last two weeks and I’m feeling a noticeable difference.

The great thing is that supermarket aisles have a good range of organic food that is an alternative for people with allergies to certain foods.

Here are some of my favorites!

OK. I have something new to share with all of you, I just wish I had stumbled upon this sooner!

Face with closed eyes of a sexy beautiful young woman with clean skin on a white background

Recently I’ve been getting really dry skin from my moisturizer, not only that but it’s been a little irritable and patchy, bear in mind I’ve been using the same cream for the last 15-20 odd years and never had a problem.

Figuring it may go away of it’s own accord, I continued using my body cream unaware that it may be the cause of the issue. After seeing my GP on a routine check up I brought up the skin irritation and they told me it could quite possibly be that my skin has become more sensitive and although there are not many studies done in this area my GP said from experience she had a similar issue. She recommended I use E45 cream which many people with sensitive skin use.

I tried the cream but found it very heavy and didn’t enjoy my moisturizing routine anymore, it didn’t smell appealing and made me feel sticky rather than cleansed.

After a few weeks of using E45 and being meagerly satisfied with it’s effect, a good friend of mine told me to put the cream down and go natural.

Go natural? What do you possibly mean I said to her, and she recommended I buy pure coconut oil and use only this to moisturize with. It has no added chemicals and smells divine, not only that – it lasts for ages and is very cheap to buy.

Off I went to Holland and Barrets where the tub was on offer half price, at £7.50, but I’ve found you can get two tubs off that for the same price if you buy online.

I cannot tell you how much I love this product. It smells gorgeous, it feels natural and easy to apply, my skin has never felt or looked better! I am just so impressed and cannot believe it’s taken me this long to hear about it. Coconut oil isn’t just used as moisturizer either – it can be used for cooking and as a hair replinishment treatment too – how handy.

It’s really got me wanting to get more involved with natural products so if you do have any recommendations let me know.

Five Ways to Improve Your Diet

Cut the Junk

Cutting out processed food will make a substantial difference to your diet and will also spur on weight loss. Many food manufacturers like to hide behind statements like Fat Free, Low Carb, Vitamin this that and the other; when actually they contain a lot more bad stuff. Buying fresh organic produce will help you get the most nutrients out of your food. Go natural, your body will thank you for it.

Fruit & Veg

Leading on from no junk – make sure you are getting at the very least your five-a-day. You will receive the best sustenance from the food that mother nature provides for you.

White Meat

Think: Put Red to Bed, White is Light! White meat is generally considered as ‘light’ meat – it is leaner and less fatty then red meat. You don’t need to completely cut red meat out of your diet – although it could be a good idea to limit the amount you eat.

Nuts

Nuts are a very good natural source of unsaturated fattyacids, Omega free, Fiber and Vitamin E! If you’re not a big fan of nuts you can always crush them and put them in a fruit salad or a bowl of cereal.

Water

It is recommended we consume a minimum of 2 Litres of water a day. Think of it as fuel to keep your body working. It is so important to keep yourself hydrated. Dehydration can lead to many health complications and leave you feeling weak and light-headed.

Hair Remedies

Hair-Straightening-Trend-5

So we’ve all heard of certain D.I.Y home remedies as treatment to do all sorts of things to your hair. Whether it is revive hair that has become dull and lifeless, or to make your hair colour lighter- there are plenty out there- but do they actually work? Over the past week we have tried and tested 3 of these all natural lotions and potions- and here’s the results!

Raw Egg Mask

egg-hair-mask

So there are many variations of this type of mask available online, we decided to give it a go with only the yolks and discarding the whites as this seemed to have the most positive reviews. The mask was applied and left in for 20 minutes then rinsed, shampooed and rinsed again.

Ingredients (based on long hair):

3 Egg Yolks

2 Table Spoons of Oil

3 A Cup of Water

Result: Hair feels softer and looks shinier. Although this process was quite messy and the idea of putting eggs in my hair felt weird. There was immediate results however they did not last long, by the next day hair felt greasy and by the second wash returned to normal.

Overall Score: 6/8

 Honey Treatment

honey

From surfing the web we discovered that honey is nutritious and full of antioxidants which sounded like it could potentially be very good for your hair. As honey is already quite a thick substance we decided not to add anything else to it but water.

Ingredients (Based on long hair):

½ Cup of Organic Honey

¾ Cup of water

The honey was diluted in the water by mixing and left to stand for 30 minutes. It was then applied to towel dried hair after a shower and left in for 30 minutes.

Result: Significant difference, hair felt thick and strong and scalp felt soft. This seemed to work very well as a strengthening mask. Second day hair appeared to still feel this way however effects diminished after second wash.

Overall Score: 8/10

Avocado Mask

Avocado-And-Banana-Hair-Mask

Avocado is known for its many health benefits so it didn’t come as a complete shock that it may be worth putting it in your hair. Many conditioners advertise that they have avocado extract in them so we felt very positive about this idea.

Ingredients

Whole Avocado- mashed

1 Tablespoon of mayonnaise

Result: Hair did feel incredible, it was sleek and smooth, easy to brush out and the shine was gorgeous. Unfortunately, the idea of avocado disgusts me to this day and it won’t be a treatment I’ll be using in the near future. It felt and smelt weird and the entire 30 minutes it was in I couldn’t wait to get it out. Second day hair still felt great and even after second wash it remained in great condition.

Overall Score: 7/10 (would have been 9/10 if it just avocado and mayonnaise in your hair!)

Let us know of any other cool hair treatments you may have heard of!

fit, fitness, healthy, quick workout, tips, workout

It’s 6.30am and the alarm clock you set with the sounds of the ocean to ease you out of your sleep, now sounds like something out of an apocalypse movie. Your plan to slip quietly out of bed so as not to wake your husband and kids has now been unintentionally abandoned as your alarm clock is knocked off the dresser, sending yesterdays half drunk cup of tea smashing onto the wooden floor. Your husband declares sleepily ‘What was that?’ as your 8 year old begins a repetitive rendition of ‘Mum! Mum! Mum!’

alarm clock

It’s at this moment that it hits you, you are never, ever going to use that early morning gym membership you so desperately hoped you would. Your get fit fast plan is in jeopardy and you’re feeling pretty darn angry about it.

No fear girls. Here is a 20 minute workout that can slot into anytime of your day. Starting off with just 20 minute exercises daily will boost your health significantly, and before you know it your energy levels will soar and you will find that somehow you have more time to do these quick and simple exercises.

5 minutes

Stretch

hip flexor stretch

Begin by stretching and focusing on each individual part of your body working your way down from your head, neck and shoulders, arms and fingers, midsection, waist and legs and even your toes! Once this is done do a warm up exercise such as running on the spot for 2 minutes, or try stepping up and down the stairs.

5 Minutes

The Push Up

woman-pushup-300x300

Face the ground horizontally prepping yourself up with your palms and your arms shoulder width apart. Bend your arms so that your body reaches the ground, hold, and return to the upright position. Attempt 3 sets of 10.

The Side Plank

From the Push Up position, turn your body to the side so that you are balancing on one side of your body, lift your hip and hold. Return to push up position and do the other side. Attempt 3 sets of 10.

5 Minutes

Sit Ups

build_better02

Lie Flat on the ground with your knees bent and arms cross your arms so that the tips of your fingers are touching your shoulders. Lift your body from this position, hold, and return back down. Attempt 3 sets of 10.

Side Sit Ups

sit-up

Lie Flat on the ground with your knees bent and cross your arms behind your head. This time lift your body but turn it, attempting to reach opposing knees with your elbows. Attempt 3 sets of 10.

5 Minutes

Squats

tumblr_inline_mkjbnoYYmp1qz4rgp

Keep feet shoulder-width apart, shoulders back and your arms stretched out in front of you. Stand up straight concentrating you’re your stomach muscles and breathe in deeply. Move into a squatting position as low as you can and hold your core muscles. Return to upright position and exhale. Attempt 3 sets of 10.

Finish up by winding down, stretching your body once more.

And there you have it, a quick 20-minute exercise you can do anytime and anywhere, and once your confidence grows and you are able to do it quicker- you can always do more than 3 sets of 10!

If you have any more hints and tips why not post them?

Good Luck Ladies!
